Peaceful Southwest

Peaceful Southwest

I went to New Mexico for the Southwest Trip from October 18th to October 25th. It was the first time that I visited there, and I noticed several different things between Spokane and New Mexico. First of all, I was surprised that the buildings in New Mexico are much lower than buildings in Spokane. For example, in Spokane, basically about 10 stories or higher story buildings stand in the cities as offices. However, I did not see any high buildings in New Mexico. Also, the buildings in New Mexico are made from adobe -they are light brown- so those buildings made me feel peaceful and comfortable, because if I stand or walk among high buildings, I feel stress unconsciously. The University of New Mexico also has adobe buildings. They are so different and unique for me because of course I don't see any adobe buildings in Spokane and they have unique shape and color which don't have sharp corners and all light brown. Next thing that I had interest about New Mexico culture is that people live much more slowly than people in Spokane. I thought people live in Spokane are also slower than Japanese, but New Mexicans are much more. Why I thought that is that I didn't see cars which ran so fast or transportation such as bus. In Spokane, there are usually cars which run quickly, and sometimes drivers honk the horn because people who are walking hinder them to go. On the other hand, in New Mexico, there are not so many cars and people drive cars not so fast, so I felt the city was peaceful and calm. In conclusion, what I felt most in New Mexico was comfortable and peaceful. And I loved that, so I would like to go there and feel that ambience again.

Grand, Grand Canyon

I stood on a cliff of the Grand Canyon

My sight was full of grandness

Closed my eyes, taking a deep breath

Wind- it's sometimes violent or gentle

Taste of the grand infinite

I will never forget the Grand Canyon
